“An Ayurvedic Immunization”

Suvarna prashan sanskar is one of the 16 essential rituals described in Ayurveda for children.

The process in which Suvarna bhasma (ash of gold) with other herbal extracts taken in the form of semi liquid and given to the children through oral route is called as Suvarna prashana.

It's a unique method of immunization which helps the children to boost up the intellectual power and produces non specific immunity in body to fight against general disorders.

In Ayurveda prevention has more priority than cure as that is mentioned in the following shloka -

"swasthasya swasthya rakshanam aaturasya vikara prashamanam"

It explains that maintaining health of healthy individual is first motto of Ayurveda and then treating the disorder comes into picture. Ayurveda has more broader vision regarding immunization as compare to modern medicines which can be reflected in the way that instead of giving vaccine for individual disorders it was preferred to boost the immunity and thus avoid many ailments along with gaining a physical, mental, social, spiritual balance to lead a healthy and happy life. Immunization which will improve the overall immunity along with that will also act as a brain tonic to improve memory power, concentration, brain I.Q. etc.is a real immunization which can be definitely achieved through Suvarnaprashan.

Worlds first Indian Pediatrician, Maharishi Kashyapa has described the benefits of Suvarnaprashana in his Book Kashyapa Samhita in Sanskrit language as follows:

" Suvarnaprashana hi etath medhagnibalavardhanamm |
Aayushyam mangalam punyam vrushyam grahapaham ||
Maasat paramamedhave vyaadhirbhirnn cha dhrushyate |
Shadbhirmaasai shrutdhar Suvarnaprashanad bhaveth || "( Sutrasthanam, Kashyapa Samhita )

Maharishi Kashyapa says Suvarna prashana improves Intelligence, Digestive fire and Physical power. It gives long, spiritual, holy and saintly life. It gives rejuvenative effects and tone ups the skin. It improves immunity in a way so that the child is prevented from bacterial and viral infections. Regular use of Suvarnaprashana helps in such a way that, the child gets best immunity to defeat diseases. Regular use of Suvarnaprashana make child very intelligent and he can remember all heard by him.

Whom to administer:

Suvarna prashan can be given to age group of 0-16yrs.

Time of administration:

Suvarna prashan can be done daily early in the morning, or at least on every Pushya nakshatra- an auspicious day- which happens to come after every 27 days, given on this day it bestows excellent benefits.


Benefits of suvarna prashan:

1 Suvarna prashan increases immunity power and develops resistance against common infections, thus prevents children from falling ill very often.
2 It builds physical strength in children and enhances physical activities, and also improves stamina for the same.
3 Regular doses of Suvarna prashan improves child's intellect, grasping power, sharpness, analysis power, memory recalling in a unique manner.
4 It kindles digestive fire, improves digestion and decreases related complaints.
5 Suvarna prashan also improves child's appetite.
